On April 14th, a new visitor center/museum opened at Gettysburg. This new center was built to replace the previous center that resided on Cemetery Ridge and was built over where a good bit of fighting occurred. The new center was built east of Cemetery Ridge behind Union lines in a location where no fighting occurred. Now that the new center has opened, the old one and its invading parking lot will be demolished so that Cemetery Hill will be preserved and will be returned to its 1863 appearance.

  • This song is called "Ashokan Farewell."

  • To be honest with you, I'm not really sure.

  • True, it is not. It is very biased towards the Union, especially in the beginning of the exhibits, where it shows things about slavery and displays the southerners as a bit antagonistic. If you want a decent, unbiased museum, I'd go with the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg.

  • I am returning "home" after 5 years in Montana, so I missed the opening of the new Gettysburg VC. . What I see on this YouTube certainly seems like the South's POV is not present. Seems like your post confirms that.

  • I wish I had been there for the opening, there are quite a few artifacts from the old museum that I have yet to find in the new center. The cyclorama is amazing.

  • if i remember correctly it was $7.50 but it worth it. If you know the museum director you get in for 3.50 like i did...

  • The new VC is nothing but political correctness run amok and has little to do with the battle of Gettysburg. Now King Latschar wants to charge admission since it's such a failure and isn't pulling in the bucks they had hoped for.

  • He pretty much means that the old visitor center was around in JFK's time.
