I believe that Stephen does have the final say in the Carols, not the "beeb". One thing that I'm sure does affect the choice, as it does for all organists the world over, is when a number of people come up to you after a service and say "I really like such-and-such; could you do it more often?". Or the dreaded alternative, particularly when it comes from the-Power(s)-that-Be...espieci
ally if given not as an order but as a "helpful suggestion"... -
Does anyone know if Dr.Cleobury has the final say, year to year on the optional carols that rotate in and out of the program year to year? Do the college age choir members have a say in planning the program? What about the 2 priests who preside or the College administration? I hope it's not the BBC.

Thanks for uploading this. Superb. Congratulations to Dr Cleobury, the choir and Ben-San Lau at the organ.
Cleobury indicated in a recent radio interview that he does put the Carols together. He spoke of how he adjusts the programme to ensure the right mix of old and new, organ-accompanied and un-accompanied items, and overall, the right 'tempo'. For me the 2011 Carols were slightly less 'mainstream' than 2010, and the musical content of the BBC1 Midnight Mass from Southwark RC Cathedral was pretty inaccessible for non RC's, so this perhaps proves the BBC are not just interested in what's 'popular'.
