Yes I have encountered this a few times myself, it is because radiowaves travel faster than the speed of sound. If you go to a long stretch of straight track that has crossings several thousand feet away, if you look down the tracks you will notice the ditchlights activate (on NS or CSX) when the approaching train blows its horn, but you won't hear the horn until several seconds later!

I like how at 0:52 you can hear the horn in the background of the scanner but you don't hear it it until 2 seconds later! Awesome catches Ryan! I sure need to see a LORAM in action soon!
