Adam Aston sings Henryk Wars - Panie Janie, 1938

„Panie Janie" (Mister John!) is one of three great hit songs from „Zapomniana melodia" („A Forgotten Tune") -- which was one of the last musical comedies in pre-war Poland (1938). The music was composed by Henryk Wars as a free jazzy evaluation of the popular European children song „Frère Jacques":

- which translates in English:
Mister John, Mister John, wake up, wake up! Only the lazy bones are still asleep, when all the bells are ringing, bim-bam-bom.

In the movie the song is sung by Helena Grossówna, Jadwiga Andrzejewska and the student girls chorus, just before the boring music class they all are waiting to attend. The dance scene - performed by Helena Grossówna, as a witty parody of the famous choreography from the movie „Varsity Drag"- can be seen on You Tube (piszczyk90 Polish pre-war movie clip collection).
