in several ways scientists try to measure the age of rocks stones and the planets, fossils. there are several radioactive series used to do this. this method is based on some assupmtions and one of these assupmtions is that the found daughter element 100% comes from the mother element. well this assupmtion may not always be vallid. for example in teh situation one uses the uranium lead series the lead 206 can have 52 other mother elements where it comes from. and in amny other cases the daughter element cannot 100% originate from the mother element. this is a key assupmtion that is ruled out. and so these methodes cannot beused to determione the ages of what ever kind of rock.
