You're right. A lot of people will automatically label any opponents with a generalized or straw-man mark of wrongness. For example, opponents of the state of Israel are often automatically labeled "Anti-Semetic".

I dont think that most people who oppose gay marriage are necessarily bigots, although some certainly may be. Instead, I believ e they engage in fallacious thiking , including irrational conceptions of morality or simply poorly supported arguments.
