Thought I'd put together a demo of the Blackstar HT-Dual. I tried this pedal out recently and fell in love with the tone from it. For a long time I've been looking for a way to get a Marshall-like distortion from my Fender Twin and this in my opinion is the closest thing to it. I love the Twin for its immaculate clean tone but I've always loved the Marshall crunch as it's the quintessential rock sound!

I've read comments on the forums from people complaining about the fact this this pedal isn't 'pure' valve distortion, apparently it's more like Marshall Valvestate circuitry. I don't know enough about this stuff, but I do know I like the sound of valve gear and this, for my money sounds great. I don't care what's inside it 'cause it sounds excellent!!!

Hope you like the demo folks,

Matt.

  • Great demo &I Great playing! from what Ive read about this pedal it will give a tube sound to a solid state amp because it has a tube in the pedal. Would you think that to be accurate? thanks!

  • Respond to this video... Well I can say it makes a solid state sound better as I've gigged a solid state amp with this pedal and achieved some great sounds. I'm not sure if it can replace a tube amp entirely though.

  • Excellent!

  • @stchrismusic Thank you my friend!

  • hello there!

i just subscribed u cause i really liked your ht-dual review

and ended up buying one last month.

i'm playing it through g&l legacy (usa), peavey classic 30.

i dont know what it is, but mine doesn't sound hm.. screaming?

could that be cause i'm playing the amp at at volume 2 out of 12?

    help!

    thank you. =]

  • I do use a Tele with this pedal and if you crank up the gain (a little bit more than you would with 'buckers) you can get some great sounds happening. I tend to set everything at 12 o clock, then just tweak it to my own taste. I usually set the ISF to the 'UK' setting for that 60's classic 'mid-honk!'. It's all about experimentation. You have a great guitar and amp there so persevere and you'll find something that pleases you. Cheers, Matt.

  • beautifull playing! Great sounds :)

  • Great demo

  • Have you tried using the thing in the FX Loop of an amp? I KNOW.... Stupid idea, but I tried it. It's a usually cardinal sin to put any sort of drive into the chain that way as the FX loop is mainly for Chorus....BUT.... I can get some great tonal changes, and the sound (blend) is now much more controllable.

Give it try one day perhaps!!?

  • Hey Matt, great playing as always. Can we get you to demo this with your TS808 for solo leads? I think that would sound killer!

  • Sounds great. I got the HT-Drive and now I'm wondering if I should get this instead

  • subbed :)

  • Anyone tried this pedal with a bass guitar? Brian Marshall uses it in Alter Bridge.... anyone?

  • I can, ONLY, afford one pedal for soaring overdrive lead work. Should I get the Blackstar or the Boss Metal zone?

Mind you, it's not for chords but mainly lead work, requiring long singing sustains.

What is everyone opinion, out there?

WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST PEDAL TO GET, IF ONLY 1?

I will be putting it in front of my vintage Fender amp.

    thanks
