Oh man, this guy sounds like me. Animation is quite a passion I've had since I was a kid-- but the modern practice of it makes me gag. I feel like I'm gravitating more towards the underground comic realm as a possible point of interest; as I doodle characters way more than I animate them. Comic Book Holocaust is probably one of the most hilarious things I've ever read in my life-- it seemed so on a whim.
