In some places, you only have to drill down a thousand feet or so. In CA, OR and WA, you don't have to go far.
In fact, California's geothermal power plants produce about one-half of the world's geothermally generated electricity.

Albeit, some mercury.
6)Does not come with an international scale worst-case risk (nuclear melt-down and radioactivity spread over thousands of square miles).
7)Does not cause cancer due to exposing miners to Radon gas.
8)Provides a solid renewable base load.
9)Can also provide heating.
