What are particles?
Particle systems can be used to simulate effects. You may see particles in bling, fire, lasers, fog and falling leaves. How can you tell that something is a particle? Chances are that it is probably moving and being animated. Particles often contain some sort of random or organic motion to make them appear livelier. Even if you do not create your own particles, you can enjoy the things that are made with them. You can hide particles or see Particle Sources in View menu -- Beacons. All particles have an emitter source; if that object is removed from inworld, particles vanish. If you turn Render Beacons on, you can see what objects have scripts in them that are emitting particles. The particle script sets a "state" of the prim; the script can be removed and the particles will keep going. If you have too many particles on screen, it can lag your viewer-side performance. You can modify or look at "Max. Particle Count" in Edit menu -- Preferences -- Graphics tab. Visit the Particle Laboratory @ Teal (180, 73, 21). There you can see many particle stations, each covering a different topic, so you can learn at your own pace.
