For such a small town, Ardrossan is well served by the railways having no less than three stations! And that's after the Beeching cuts, which got rid of the former Caledonian railway line to Montgomerie pier. Ardrossan is, of course, the ferry port for services to the isle of Arran, and was served by both the Glasgow & South Western Railway and rivals the Caledonian Railway. In the end it was the G&SWR's line to Winton pier which won when the inevitable cuts came after nationalisation.
