Newcastle office occupation on climate change

On 15th December 2008, the Rudd government announced an emissions reduction target of 5 - 15% by 2020. The next day, community members around the country went to visit their local federal members to express their disgust. This film clip shows people in Newcastle visiting Labor MP Sharon Grierson.

Thank you so much for the protest. We are all behind you. The 5% reduction target was was so disappointing. We should aim for a 50% reduction by 2020. If that sounds impossible to Minister Penny Wong, my answer to her is so was President Kennedy's commitment to land a man on the moon by the end of the 1960s. Leadership needs to project into the 'impossible', and inspire the creative pursuit to reach those goals. Our govt has done our future industry and true prosperity a great disservice.
