The problem with all of these alarmist videos is that they assume that the caldera is formed by an enormous explosion, when in fact it is the continuous eruption of a large volume of magma from under the volcano. Think of the initial eruption of Mount Saint Helens and imagine that continuing for weeks or months, without stopping. When the pressure on the magmqa chamber drops and enough outgasing has occured, the roof of the magma chamber starts to fall in and that is what creates the caldera.
Yes, volcanoes go through cycles (variable ones at that) and yes the last eruption may have been about 640,000 years ago - but that doesn't mean thats the cycle length. According to the dates in the past of eruptions the cycle seems to be roughly 700,000 years... which means you still have another possible 60,000 years to live, give or take lol
0:11 In case you already died, it's now 2011, and BTW, the Earth's magnetic field protects us from solar storms. Let alone, these coronal mass ejections need to hit Earth. There's alot of ways they can travel. 0:38 Mayan Shmayan. They died out over 900 years ago! 4:38 Now that's believable!
To say Yellowstone erupts every 640,000 yrs is highly unprovable. Basically, it could erupt between now and another 640,000 yrs.
