Maynard Ferguson did the trumpet playing for this 1978 film, and this scene is a tour de force - a trumpet concerto written by Bill Conti for Maynard. Unfortunately it's by far the best scene in the movie, which is overall terrible, and has been justifiably forgotten by everyone except hard-core Maynard fans. Burt Young (Paulie in the Rocky movies) stars, and does a not-too-convincing job of miming the trumpet playing, which the director attempts to hide by moving the camera a lot and filming directly into the lights.
This movie is out of print but was on Hulu last time I checked. Besides this scene, there is a lot of Maynard on the soundtrack, which partially makes up for the movie's other flaws.
Its hard to watch, you could pull ANYONE off the street and teach him to "fake" the trumpet better than Paulie............ but great to "listen" to.......

Burt Young could have done better, that was the worst impression of a high note trumpet player ever, at least with andy garcia he tried, the song was good and maynard sounded amazing
