I was chasing a rotating storm eastward across Southampton County, VA and became stuck in the core. Due to the high winds, I couldn't risk travel near trees and had to wait it out. I encountered hurricane force winds that I estimate were 70 to 80 mph. The storm was becoming embedded in a line and lost strength. I ended the chase when I enountered a blocked road. The high wind video was filmed around 3:15 PM on 35. My car is facing southeast. The fallen tree was on 628. This video was shown on The Weather Channel.
628 between courtland and wakefield is no joke even on a dry day....that and 603 are the most winding roads i have ever seen
