Notes:

1. I am not an auto mechanic and therefore cannot guarantee that everything I did was proper procedure.

2. This video only shows how to replace the pads. A complete brake job might include a brake fluid flush as well.

3. In engineering (my area of study), ft-lbf (foot pounds force) is a measure of energy and work. lbf-ft (pound foot) is a measure of torque.

4. I created this video as a guide to show how it's done. It is not a substitute for the shop manual. The only thing I can guarantee is that it is not 100% the proper service procedure. Please follow this video at your own risk.

5. It may (or it may not) be harmful to push brake fluid back into the master reservoir on a car with ABS. I'm not familiar with the internals of the ABS modulator, pump, or really anything to do with the system. An alternative method would be to clamp off the brake hose soft line near the caliper and open the bleeder valve to let fluid out. Follow proper procedures so you don't let air back into the system. Again, follow my steps at your own risk. I don't want to scare you, I just want to be very clear about my concerns.

6. I understand that by posting this, I can expect that people may follow my procedure. I understand that I have an obligation to provide the most accurate information possible. If you find a flaw in ANYTHING that I said, don't hesitate to call me on it. I will add an annotation or take the video down if need be. The brakes are undoubtedly the one thing that you don't want to fail on a car, and I wouldn't want to be responsible for that failure.

  • You are the only person on youtube in a car repair video that: #1 Hit all of the points, tricks, and tips that a shop mechanic would hit. and #2 actually sound like you know what you are talking about. Excellent video, you should make tutorials for a living. (we both know that being a mechanic pays crap even in a dealership)

    Thank you

  • @ragutom Thanks for your kind words; made my day!

  • The G clamp... how big is it? Thanks.

  • @t1sutton The C clamp is somewhere between 8 and 10 inches.

  • mate, i want to say THANKS because 2 days ago, i took the plunge and went ahead for the first ever time! hey presto!! all good!! however i want you to do a similar video for the rear brakes where they are drums as i have been told they are more awkward

  • @hakan38 I appreciate the feedback and you're very welcome. When the time comes to do the back brakes, I will film it. Cheers

  • im so dumb.. I was trying to take the other bolts off >_< I feel so dumb.. haha no wonder it wouldn't budge

  • Thanks tanman, really helpful tips there.

  • @t1sutton that's a great video, really well explained. Thanks.

  • Hey. Great vid (so far, yet to watch part 2 :). Not sure why you are changing the pads though, there is plenty of life left in those yet. By the way, the first side of the rotor (discs in the uk) you showed us is badly worn, the second side is abysmally worn. Plus you only have a few millimeters tolerance between a new rotor and a worn one, so you wouldnt be able to skim that without dipping below tolerance, and risking cracking in the rotor.

  • Excellent video!!! Thank you!

  • thank you for posting it, it helps a lot

    thanks again

  • thanks..from sweden
