Our plane was about two hours out over the Pacific Ocean headed for Maui when a thick smoke started to fill the cabin of our plane. There was a burning smell, but flight staff crew couldn't figure out where the smoke was coming from. Since we weren't to the half way mark we had to turn the plane around and fly back two hours and land in San Francisco. For two hours we had to fly with the smoke and the fire alarms going off in the cabin. I caught this video footage right before we landed in San Francisco after the initial shock and disbelief over the whole situation simmered down. Scariest moment of my life to date!

  • @youngestpilotinGa Plus they make use of a mix of oxygen and cabin air so it's pretty useless.

  • @kikam52010 you cant drop the masks because that will make it worse.

  • @soaringinflightguy the oxyogen masks can work between 15 and 60 miniuits depending on the system installed, other than that all your info i correct.

  • @kikam52010 Oxygen masks are only for when there is a decompression (aka hole in the plane) Oxygen masks only work for about 15 minutes. If you are cruising at 40,000ft, there is not enough oxygen up there so the masks drop so you can breathe until plane gets low. In this case there is nothing you can do about the smoke but stay low. Same on all airlines all over the world... fyi

  • thats usairways for ya...you're lucky to survive a flight on that airline.

  • so that what it's like to hotbox an airliner...

  • Ok which old man farted and blew dust everywhere.

  • @FlyingPhoAddict They give you a whole bag of chips in stead of just peanuts.

  • @kikam52010 um, becuase Oxygen is one of the primary gaseous elements needed for a fire/explosion and could help fuel a fire or cause an explosion.

The only reason you would need oxygen in an aircraft is if the cabin loses pressure above 12500 feet so that you dont pass out.
