"Round The Marble Arch". ( 6/8 time Novelty FoxTrot).
Jack Payne & His Band.
Vocal Chorus by Leslie Holmes.
Recorded London, June / July 1932.

A huge hit in 1932 and here given the Jack Payne treatment with the smiling voice of Leslie Holmes. This is from the days of simple, uncomplicated patriotism. How many other similar tunes spring to mind?; 'Hyde Park Corner' and 'The Changing of the Guard' are just two.

  • Think it was these rousing comedy type numbers that were the big hits with the masses back then.I always passed them by in preference for tuneful fox trots i have to say.

  • Rather Foolish of you??.

  • I had a recording of this with Cicely Courtneidge many years ago. Great stuff!

  • Sounds like a great music-hall number. Thanks for all your selections.

  • This Imperial record sold well. Not surprising as it is a cheerful and catchy tune. Leslie Holmes is a good choice as vocalist as the song suits his smiling voice perfectly.

  • true 'aint there is nothing wrong with that
