遊佐刺し子紹介パート３：発見！ NHK朝の番組より MAGIC OF YUZA SASHIKO 3

Mrs. ARIMOTO says that Yuza sashiko is to stitch without line.By the way, the basic shonai sashiko patterns was collected and arranged by Tetsue IKEDA and furthermore patterns were added by Tojiyo TAKAHASHI & Chieko HORI including Kogin-zashi patterns(Aomori Pref. Japan) and Nagai sashiko patterns(Nagai district of Yamagata pref.). At first, Tetsue IKEDA's sampler was called the basic patterns of Yuza sashiko. Mrs ARIMOTO preserved and taught us Tetsue IKEDA's basic patterns strictly.
「遊佐刺し子保存会」２代目会長有本ヨシミさんへのインタビューです。NHK山形鶴岡支局、昭和６０年ころでしょうか（詳細不明、どなたかご存じでしたら教えてください！­）。懐かしい顔、顔、顔、当時のみなさんも、今の方々同様に、一心不乱に刺し子に向かっていらっしゃる、その童女のような純真さに、今更ながら打たれます。有本さんは刺し­子をする時「型付け（製図をチャコで布に写すこと）」をしませんでした。遊佐では、手馴れた女性たちは誰一人として下絵を描かずに手加減だけで刺し子を仕上げました。有本­さんも録画の中でそのことに触れています。また、当時の「基本刺し」は今の庄内刺し子の基本刺しよりも数が少なかったのですが、その遊佐刺し子の基本刺しを厳密に守り伝え­てきたのも有本さんと遊佐刺し子保存会でした。地刺しや花菱刺し、太目刺しなどは、他所の地域の刺し子模様を後の遊佐女性たちが吸収した結果、いまでは庄内刺し子の基本刺­しに加わっているのです。早く、一つでも多く模様を覚えようと真剣な女性たちの一心不乱な姿には、感動を思えずにはいられません。★このたび アマゾンジャパンの通販サイトで「刺し子の古里　遊佐町から　遊佐刺し子に遊ぶ」「刺し子の古里　遊佐町から　続・遊佐刺し子に遊ぶ」を購入できるようになりました。「遊佐刺し子に遊ぶ」でご検索ください。

'On line stitching' is easier to teach and to learn than without line.庄内刺し子は5ミリの方眼用紙で下絵を書き、それをチェコペーパーやチャコペンシルなどで布に写してから刺していくため、手馴れた方が刺せば針目も揃い大変整っ­­た仕上がりになりますが、反面、刺す物のサイズに合わせて文様を縮小拡大するような加減ができにくい。ところが遊佐刺し子はもともと下絵無し、あっても縦の線を入れたり­、­手縞の縦線を目印に利用するくらいのものですから、手馴れた人が刺せば伸縮自在、出来上がりの物のサイズに文様を合わせる手加減が常にできるのです。そこが庄内刺し子­と遊­佐刺し子の一番大きな違いです。初心者向けの庄内刺し子に熱心に取り組む方たちが、一日も早くみなさんが上級の遊佐刺し子へとステップアップして下さる事を心から願­ってい­ます。

Dear Izumi, can you e mail me some more information from Mrs Arimoto's discussion about the patterns? I watched it twice but there is so much information, it is difficult for me to understand the main points! I'm also really interested about the Nagai patterns - long patterns - which ones are these? I never had a chance to meet Arimoto san, but I always include her name when I'm teaching sashiko, because she taught Chie Ikeda who taught me! Arimoto san's 'asanoha' stitching displayed at the Yurari, where she used colours, helped me understand this complicated design. She is a great teacher.
