  • It has been proven in Germany that to recycle plastic more energy is required than is actually contained in the material one is processing/recycling!The real solution is not to produce the superfluous material in the first place.Steel,Aluminium and glass definitely can be rc.

  • They were doing okay until they started waxing laissez faire. Yes, there are useless and wasteful government expenditures. The same can be said about multi-payer health care overhead. Would P & T consider SocSec, Medicare/Medicaid useless and wasteful? How about schools? The military?

Stop villainizing taxation, generally. Such incites indignation where unjustified, and sanctifies rampant greed in a land where too many already desire to be "little emperors".

  • Who cares, I want my bottle deposit back, done.

  • fuck corn, high fructose corn syrup is shit, which is also now renamed in some places as corn syrup or even corn sugar. Bullshit! It also sucks as being used to make ethanol. i don't even wanna eat the shit, burn it all!

  • There's got to be a worthwhile way to do it though. I mean right? I hope so anyway.

  • So pen and Teller must be against growing corn... Since corn is subsidized...

  • I doubt I that it is more expensive to recycle. In india recycling isn't subsidized, the government does nothing to promote it and guess what the recycling is still a profitable business. recyclers even pay people to take their waste.recycling costs less. if it costs more in your country something else is wrong - hint ....think labour cost.

  • Some materials may become cheaper to recycle rather than produce from scratch as we run out of them. For example LCD screens contain several rare metals (eg Indium), and our known reserves of them are extremely limited. So while perhaps just aluminium and a few other materials are cost-effective to recycle now, over time I expect more will be. Also as green fuels continue to develop, the equations on production pollution will change too, which may make recycling of some materials less pollutant.

  • = Same place we've always gotten them.=

Obviously, that won't work any longer. That place is fossil fuels, and it is running out.

And all the energy to extract fossil fuels and make products from that oil will only increase with time, consuming even more energy, and generating even more greenhouse gases in the process.

A Japanese inventor has made a machine which turns trash into oil.

I recently saw a thermal depolymerization unit in action.
