First of all - The map has NO leaks, and no other errors what so ever. full compile log in the forum thread
The 3D skybox water does not generate any reflections - it just shows reflections generated by other parts of water that are not inside the 3D skybox. Any ideas what went wrong?

If you know what's causing this, please post in this forum thread:

For those who are wondering about the map - it's a map I made for Garrysmod, for a custom game mode called Gmod Racer. All custom content in this map (textures, sprites, models & animations) are made by me, using Adobe Photoshop and Autodesk Maya 2010

  • @SpAMCAN

it's a bug with the map compiling process or something.

water lod entity changes nothing. kinda tired atm, sry for keeping it so short xD

  • @unbrokenjack

that's not the problem. there are other bugs. I even tried re-compiling official Valve maps with the same result. Not sure if it's fixed now though, haven't mapped in quite a while.

  • From what I can tell, water reflections are only rendered in the map itself (or if the skybox is within the LOD you set in the water LOD entity.)

This means that most of the time you end up with cheap water.

  • The problem is that there is reflective water on more than one level. In order to make realistic reflections on water it creates a "camera" of sorts, facing upwards, and puts what that camera sees onto the water's surface. Source can only make one of these cameras at a time - if you have two levels of water, it needs two but can only use one! So make all your water on the same level. You can have many pools of it but their surfaces should all line up.

  • Alright, I've done a lot of researchs and tests, including decompiling and recompiling an official Valve map which has 3D skybox water. And 3D skybox water is borken atm, when freshly compiling a map. This seems to be broken for all source games you can map for using hammer. I've sent a ticket to steam support, and hope i will get an answer soon
