The actress' delivery in this scene serves to illustrate one of the perennial dilemmas of acting: if the goal is to reproduce behaviors and simulate motives and states of mind, then she's succeeded; in real-life interaction, people do talk and carry themselves this way, ineffectual woodenness and all. And yet, her approach translates awkwardly to the screen and leaves some viewers unsatisfied, partly b/c it's hard to gauge just how much of the character's affectedness was intentional.

1:07 If she was what she looked like she'd be a blackboard with fingernails dragging across it.

Anyone could be anyone. The stu looks like Molly Ringworm, but she's not.

Rebecca Pidgeon was directed to act that way. WHY!? Only Mr. Mamet can answer that. It doesn't show her in a good light either way. She so wooden it's distracting. Some may think that the only way she can get an acting job, especially this, is because she's fucking the writer/director. I still love this movie by the way.

David Mamet can be a bit of an acquired taste. I absolutely love his films while my sister is distracted by the staccato dialogue & off-beat characters/premises. However, I have never taken a liking for Rebecca Pidgeon. She may act well but her delivery can at times be annoying. Nothing against her; that's just how she strikes me. What is interesting in Mamet films is that often you don't really care about or like the protagonists, but the stories draw you in just the same.

Rebecca Pidgeon's acting is horrible, really really bad.

Can somebody please post the entire movie....PLEASE!
Rebecca Pidgeon is a fantastic actor. If you dislike her delivery, blame her writer/director husband. I find her to be...mesmerizing! Mamet infuses all his writings with that unique dialog. Don't you see...don't you see? Its what makes his work so unique and mesmerizing.
