Toronto, OPP, RCMP, York, Durham and other police proudly march in Pride 2009

This is the moment that made me the proudest to be a Torontonian! There was a huge police contingent in the 2009 Pride Parade - not there to police the crowd, but to join with the hundreds of thousands lining the streets to celebrate and stand proud! Remember that the roots of Pride are in the terrible police raids of bath-houses and bars in Toronto and often overt discrimination against the lesbian, gay, bi and trans communities, NYC and elsewhere. Life ain't perfect in TO, but what an inspiring moment to see the police standing up for justice and equity - at least during the Pride Parade!

Well, statistically - some of them certainly are! And, without sounding like a total pollyanna, it's far better to have the police marching in the parade and celebrating pride rather than arresting people for being LGBTT.

My partner is... He was in the parade and was proud to be there.  There are several officers in this contingent who are LGBTT. Don't assume...
