3/26/07 Sadly we lost our friend Garland, yesterday. So now this clip means more than ever.
1/8/07 Here's a clip of one of my dear friends sitting in my basement playing lap steel. Garland is one of the best I have heard AND he is a great pedal player. This was recorded in the mid 1990's

  • Outstanding! Do you give steel lessons?

  • Mr. Nash is deceased.

  • Beautiful....the way a lap steel should be played! I'd also love to know what tuning he's using.

  • Here is the tuning Garland used. It's just like strings 2-7 on C6 Pedal Steel: E,C,A,G,E,C

  • I can't tell you how much I enjoyed that. I play delta slide ok but just purchased a Harmony H7 (Roy Smeck?)sort of like that one this week... The bar is set pretty high and I am truly inspired.

  • I will get some more of Garland up in the near future. Bill

  • He was the real deal. No one plays like that now.

  • I've watched several others playing this song and none of them come close to him. He has something I can't explain-a feel for the instrument. I know him and he was not only an excellent artist but a wonderful person. I still miss him.

  • After replaying this video 7,497 times, I still love hearing and trying to play along.

And thanks to my wife for never complaining about hearing it all those times.

    Thank you

  • Correction... the tuning is the Jerry Byrd C6th and he's playing it like Jerry did. The tuning is E C A G E C# also called C6th+A7th

  • Wow! Thanks for sharing that! Mr.Nash's playing is truly awesome!!

  • Wish I could find more of this style of playing. This tune has a snappy beat. Bet he's keeping the angels happy.

  • Wowee!!
