in the picture the black switch cap was still missing. We had lost it in the store and never found it or replaced it. I remember the guitar selling in the $800 range back then. Early 1980's.
Then he goes.. "The tortise Hohner.. Its gone!" He then proceded to tell me the story about how someone from prince had contacted Hohner in order to track down one of the Limited Edition Tortise Telecaster copys. He got a call from one of prince's people asking if they still had the guitar. They did. Someone from princes crew (road manager) flew out to pick it up and bring it back. About a week later there was a picture of him licking the guitar during a concert. It was the same guitar because
They had a tortise shell Hohner that was there for years. It became my favorite guitar to try out when i was there playing around trying out new amps and stuff. The guitar was there for at least 3 years without a buyer, hanging on the wall. Once while playing it, the bottom strap let go and "KAKLANG!!" It ended up on the floor with no damage. I stopped by to visit a while later and as soon as i walked in, Rick Says, "Look at the wall and tell me whats missing?" I looked but couldnt figure it out
The guitar Prince played is Hohner Limited Edition. I have a story about this particular guitar.
I grew up in a suburb of Chicago that had a small family run music shop. They had a guitar store that was part of the business a few doors down from the main store. They carried Hohner guitars among other brands. When i was younger we used to go to the store and hang out talking guitars stuff with the guys that ran the store. (Rick and Bob) They were both guitar players and would play on occasion.
@memyself2k You thought wrong. He played an off-brand H.S. Anderson Madcat... which was probably the gayest looking guitar that he could find until he got rich and could have even gayer ones custom built.
this is the new version recently released, Prince got his when hohner first started the line. you can tell this is new because. the tortise shell color is yellow on this one, the headstock is different on this, and the plate on the plug output is not tortise.
It just looks like Prince's tele, but in fact it's just a cheap copy of a cheap guitar! The Prinz will cost you around 1900 bucks! Prince probably paid around 150- 200 max for his! Hohner re-issued the Tele once Prince became famous! Oh yeah, and Prince sued the hell out of them!!! hence the name "Prinz" It is by no means the same axe Prince plays! not even in the same league.
