Excerpt of the premier performance of 'XAS' for two double basses.

Performers: Louis-Michel Marion (right) and Ashley-John Long (left)

Recorded live at the Musiques Libres festival, 02/11/2008, Theater Kursal, Besançon, France.

"The work moves through 5 distinct notated textural areas with linking sections of more interpretative material over which both performers both performers have the responsibility of cueing. The melodic material used in the piece is a reflection on the sound world that Giacinto Scesci (1905-1982) created in many of his works and the implications of the title itself is two-fold: firstly as a homage to Iannis Xenakis (1922-2001) and secondly to the strange and intangible energies that pass between performers when improvising freely." AJL 2009

  • Wow, Ash, that's eerie; like haunted basses in space.

I'd like to hear the full version you said would be uploaded.........

  • Great playing and composition Ash!

If you like this piece check out Ashley's piece '2 Short Pieces' for double bass which is published by us at Staunch Music. He's also written some fantastic saxophone/pieces which we also publish... Well worth a look!

    Thanks, Staunch Music
