  • I cant mute the STRINGS on the downstroke!!!!! Its driving me crazy i must be doing something wrong.

  • Not to pimp my own lessons, but in about 2 weeks I'll be releasing an hour long lesson on StevieSnacks that breaks down the muting techniques needed for playing this style of music. :-) Downloads or DVD.

  • Hi Anthony

I stumbled across this by acceded and am very impressed with your technique. I have been trying to adopt this style using palm muting, and I just can get it to sound right.

Have you published your hour long lesson on this muting technique yet? I can t seem to find it on your website

  • Sure thing. It's not a free lesson though, it's one of the premium lessons in the "Essential Techniques Series"

  • I am a beginner if ever there was one. I need some guidance dealing with muting the strings during this part. After each of the "main" notes are played, do you palm the rest of the strings with your index finger?

  • The strings are muted during the rake following each main note by resting your fingers on the strings without pressing them down as you pick all the strings with one stroke.

  • Definitely not finding this easy lol

  • I just can't seem to get the muting right. Can anyone recommend anything to help me out with this, maybe something else to practice?

  • Great video lesson!! Thank you I can play this song how I wanted to for a long time..but now I'm getting crazy looking for the right pedal effect: what did you use?

    Thank you!!

  • @ExadusX It's a little late to respond to this - but i find playing Honky Tonk Woman in regular tuning helpful.

(in A) Or for something easier - Bad Moon Rising in D. Just the first two D chords to start - press and release the chord. You need to work your way up to this.

  • it looks all so sloppy but it sounds sooooo goood

  • I don't really understand the shuffle part. It dosen't make sense how when you do a up stroke with all of the open strings and then when you come back down to hit the note. How do you mute the other strings?

  • i wish had another fret :( my 4th is HIS 5th

  • laura valo i aache re.....

  • @gr8bluesgtr so... what you are saying is that on the upstring you are simply doing a mute with your left hand on the E A and D strings and doing striking all six strings upward, and then coming down on the bass note just after? that would make more sense, i was trying to just control my pick to hit GBE and then hit the bass.... needless to say it wasnt working out very well.

  • @ExadusX well when you mute the strings you just put your fingers down (left hand) on the strings. Your fingers might not be able to reach the low E string so I just use my thumb for this (I put my thumb over the E string just enough to touch it). That's how I mute and it works pretty well when perfected.

  • @gr8bluesgtr Haha I think it's kinda your prerogative.

  • Hi what guage strings are you using?
