it's a scam so good, even police never heard about it -- until we told them about it today. a group of young men, posing as local high school soccer players, selling magazines to benefit sick kids and soldiers overseas. it's happening in rio rancho -- and now cops are on the lookout. jeff maher is live in the newsroom with tonight's big story. jeff. marquis fullfillment agency llc. it may sound reputable. but it's not. that's the name of the company these salesmen work for. if you google it -- all you find is complaints from people who've been ripped off. when betsy ross opened her door the other night, she was greeted by a couple of young, good- looking guys with big smiles on their faces, but with a plea of desperation. they told betsy they were local high school soccer players, selling magazine subscriptions to help fund their soccer tournament trip to chicago, which would be broadcast on espn. they even gave her thr jersey numbers. they told betsy they only had to sell a couple more subscriptions. "the coach had made them run eight miles that day because they didn't get their 10 subscriptions, and could i help them out" she invited them inside - "they were charming, they were personable, i started laughing" the magazines she bought would be sent to soldiers overseas, and to sick kids being treated at st. judes hospital. she wrote them a check for 53- dollars to buy one subscription, and they left. when her husband wally came home, he did some quick research, and found all the complaints about the company. the better business bureau confirmed with us -- it's a scam out of buford, georgia. i called the number for the company -- it went to voicemail. "so what are you supposed to do when one of these attractive, fast-talking teens shows up at your door with a pitch? well it's easy, you ask for their solicitors badge" "when you ask them for their solicitors permit, they're supposed to display a three by five card with their picture id, their id has their name, information" so these kids were slick? they are so slick, and they are so cute, and they are so physically well built, and i'm sorry wally, you're kneeing me, but they were smooth!" betsy cancelled her check and put these flyers out all throughout her neighborhood warning others about the scam. if you come across these phoneys, call police immediately
