Lone Love

The triumphant return of the Loners' vids! Even if it is god-awful long, lol. But that's what happens when you give me access to a scanner! Blueeyes33, I hope this keeps you happy for at least 9 minutes and 45 seconds. ;) And everyone else, of course. :)

"The Loners" trade paperback, collecting the entire miniseries, is due out in December, entitled "The Loners: The Secret Lives of Superheroes" -- if you can't wait that long (I know I can't!), The Loners #6 is scheduled to come out October 17, 2007.

First of all, have to say sorry that the vid is so long, lol. If you're not the type to listen to the same song -- a good song, mind you -- over and over, you may get a bit annoyed. Maybe the pretty pictures will be enough to keep your interest as the stories unfold. The song of which you hear various parts not once, not twice, but three times is "You Are The One" by Shiny Toy Guns.

Here are the stories of the vid; you don't have to read it, it's just for your own enlightenment / entertainment. In the beginning, "Black Rose" = Mickey and "Radio Fire" = Chris. I don't know if that's what the song is actually saying, but it sure sounds like it to me, lol.

Mickey-Chris: Superheroes in Love, much like you've seen in The Loners comic itself, but in this version, Chris saves Mickey from Nekra (or at the very least, returns victorious to her after a battle with Nekra), but then they have an argument over using powers (as The Loners are trying not to), and Chris basically says he won't give it up, causing Mickey to storm out (it's his apartment in this vid, lol). Well, they spend some time apart, longing for each other, and make up, with a happy ending for this couple.

Julie-Namie: Friends who become Something More. Namie saves everyone from Nekra (poor Nekra gets beat up alot in this vid!), but Julie's afraid of Namie's power and the callousness with which she uses it destructively. Julie tries to play it up like she's not interested in her and is suspicious of her, even calling Namie out on her violent use of superpowers, at which point Namie lays some sob story on her, probably about having amnesia and such, so Julie softens up and manages to cheer Namie up. The two become good friends. Later on, when Julie gets stabbed and is laying in the hospital, the usually stoic Namie realizes her true feelings for Julie and cries.

Mattie-Johnny: Superheroic Friends. They're used to takin' down the baddies, like Nekra, but after one particularly tough battle with her, they decide to do something in the heat of the moment -- Mattie's an adrenaline junkie, in particular. She gets so freaked out afterwards that she bails in the middle of the night, leaving Johnny to wake up alone the next morning. Johnny doesn't regret any of it, and tries to talk to her about it, but Mattie inexplicably gives him the cold shoulder. Johnny tries to give her some space, but eventually decides he can't take it anymore and goes to see her. Unfortunately, she's been drinking, so she's irate that Johnny would just show up and surprise her like this and Mattie basically cusses him out, barely restrained by Chris, who just happens to be there, hah. They're all friends, okay? Anyway, she goes home, sobers up some, and realizes avoiding Johnny isn't going to do anyone any good, so she calls him, finally.

Phil-Hollow: Tortured Pasts Collide. All right, try to remember back in the Julie-Namie part that Julie got stabbed, hah. Because of, in Phil's mind, Johnny's superheroics -- but Mattie sticks up for him, when out of the blue Hollow decides to show up. Although Hollow stabbed Julie, she regrets it and shows affection for Phil, who defends her against Fuyumi Fujikawa (who, in this version, does the stereotypical villain "Fine for now, but I'll be back, when you're not expecting it!" thing) and gives her a place to stay. She won't say anything and remains much a mystery, but that doesn't stop Phil from dwelling on that kiss she gave him when she told him she liked him. Unfortunately for the both of them, ever since Julie got impaled on Hollow's tendrils, the goblins of his past are coming back to haunt him. Can't a man wash his dishes in peace!? Later, after a brief, unsuccessful bout with Nekra (she wins, for once!), he comes home to Hollow and tucks her in.

I made this vid in honor of the almost surreal way everyone got paired up by the end of Loners #5: Julie / Namie (most likely just friendship), Mattie x Johnny (just to cover up Mattie's snooping), and then the whole mess of Mickey / Chris / Phil, which I wasn't going to cover in this vid, so the fourth "couple" was Phil x Hollow.
