  • @FHCTech 1- You need to put a wet rag because a dry rag will catch fire too and be useless!

2- the rag serve as a way to stop oxygen from reaching the fire (no oxygen=no more combustion).

  • so dont put water in it. but put a water soaked rag over it.....seems legit.

  • @mildmayfelix

I understand that....but the way this commercial is put together is just...idiotic.

Especially the way that the wet rag follows the line "do not use water"[sic]...

Public safety announcements are supposed to make you feel safer, more informed...

Besides, the only reason a pot would catch fire like this is if someone wasn't paying attention to it...which should be rule #1 when working with grease and a stove!

  • @FHCTech The wet cloth (wet not dripping) is to cut the oxigen supply. it's wet so it doesn't catch on fire.

  • I'd put a metal pot lid over the fire - there are usually some of those in a kitchen, along with other utensils, yes?

  • im i the only one who found the outro...bizar?

  • This is wrong. When there is a fire with oil or really anything, grab baking soda throw it over, and put a lid over the pot, the fire will go out seconds after the baking soda and the lit stops reignition so does the baking soda

  • @FHCTech ahahaha oh good lord.

  • Don't throw water on a fire, but wet a rag.....

    What?

And I love how the person demonstrating this "simple" and "safe" technique is a fireman in full protective gear....

How about you pay attention to your cooking?
