A la Recherche du Temps Perdu at PBA Galleries

Very rare complete set of Proust's masterwork, untrimmed and in the original wrappers, unsophisticated, unrestored copies in exceptional condition. Includes the extremely scarce first edition of the first volume, in this case the variant with the vertical bar between the E and the T in Grasset on the title-page. A La Recherche Du Temps Perdu (translated as In Search of Lost Time, also Remembrance of Things Past) is considered by many to be the greatest novel of the 20th century, and is certainly the finest piece of sustained modernist literature in the French language. The publication was interrupted by the outbreak of the first world war, and the it was not until five years after Proust's death in 1922 that the publication of the novel was completed. The second volume (A l'Ombre...) with printed paper label on spine above 5 francs price reading "Majoration temporaire cinquante pour cent."
