The fire at 93 Cottage Street began around 9:30 a.m It started in a second-floor unit bedroom of the house, fire officials say. Alex Martinez, 17, said through a translator that he was in the upstairs unit when the fire broke out and managed to escape through the smoke.City code enforcement officials say the blaze started when an extension cord overheated, causing a mattress to catch fire.
