Protip: I just discovered that there is such a thing as a My Little Pony cartoon, and it works wonders as a shock cure for the general horror, torture, and greyish blackness of this game. I highly recommend the power of singing rainbow unicorn ponies as an antidote to get you through the rest of the game, or to help your viewers to get to sleep after watching most of this playthrough in one late night sitting like I did.

Oh yes, and has anyone else noticed the fact that the creature is now a different one?

Again, Quill missed this (this one was a bit less subtle too)- remember the small room ('infected' by the shadow) a while back where he went in and found a bunch of body parts? Those were the parts of the first creature/monster. It was torn apart by the new one. That moment was supposed to be like a "oh ***, the thing I can't fight was killed" kind of moment.

Well, the game doesn't explain it any further for you, so here's why the rose petals keep appearing in the game:

The rose petals are because of the amnesia potion- if you go back a few episodes, you'll see him mention a "rose" oil which was fed to them to make them forget. There. Not much of a spoiler, huh?
