Chris Matthews Unloads On Protester Who Carried Gun To Obama Event

"You're carrying a god damned gun at a Presidential event," Matthews says to protester William Kostric, appearing on "Hardball" to explain why he carried a gun to a health care town hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire hosted by President Obama. He said he wanted "to be heard" and wanted everyone to be aware of the rights we are losing.

Matthews chides Kostric for bringing a loaded gun to an event where the President would be. "A firearm is a defensive tool," Kostric says. "Who would be silly enough to carry an unarmed firearm?" It is legal to carry guns in New Hampshire.

He concludes that it would have been a safer crowd if everyone at the town hall carried guns.

Also, he said Obama is "a great speaker" and that he voted for Ron Paul.

Not everyone is me, yes, but A LOT of people are like me. My whole family is like that, every gun owner I've ever met (over a 100 at least) are like that, and everyone I haven't met but have seen at these gun ranges are like that. I know a family here in Hemet, CA that love guns. Every time they show me their guns they take it out of the case, check the safety, check the magazine, check the chamber, and only after all that they hand the gun to me. I have NEVER met an irresponsible gun owner.

You know who thinks of guns as trophies or sports cars? Liberals. Why? Because they're so childish when it comes to guns. I went to 3 different shooting ranges in Southern California & at each range I was required to take a test to show some proficiency with basic gun safety regulations. I remember, the first time I fired a shot in my life was at a shooting range & the very first thing that I thought after I fired the shot was that this was a powerful weapon. I had respect for it. Safety is #1!
