Just as Mozart appropriated the Turkish style into his "Rondo alla turca," we've appropriated the music of Mozart into our own. We've titled the piece "Ragtime alla turca" and although it diverts considerably from the notes of Mozart's rondo, we sought to capture the utter joyousness and virtuosity -- and the folksiness and sense of play -- of the original work.

Piece: "Ragtime alla turca" (based on Mozart's "Rondo alla turca" from his Sonata in A major, K. 331.
Composers: Greg Anderson & Elizabeth Joy Roe
Performers: The Anderson & Roe Piano Duo ( http://www.andersonroe.com )

Venue: The Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox (Spokane, Washington)
Filmed live in concert, May 3, 2009. (We shot the close-ups during our dress rehearsal!)

  • so awsome

  • @LostAndFound144 haha i know right? i feel motivated now!

  • @jennifergala Hahaha yes I do hope that Volodos is mentioned when they do decide to release it on CD, lawsuits are never a pretty thing and people should always be credited for their work joost 'cos it's ethical that way. G'luck with your work! Hahaha I'm still a music student so I have much to learn about composition/arranging and even more about the business.

  • @kierankasey Lol I couldn't agree more. I hope when they release it on a CD they will put a credit because they might get sued. I also like their performance they play really good. I am a film composer and I work for US television series and Hollywood movies and I meet a lot of the executives every day. Its a copyright world!

  • @jennifergala Volodo's deserves the props but so do these 2 two for their extrapolation as much as they should acknowledge their inspiration.

...such little writin' space Youtube offers...

  • @jennifergala Hahaha such enthusiasm. I can empathise though with how'd you'd like Volodos to be acknowledged at least. And yes, I do know the difficulties of arrangin' fer a single instrument as well with as many voices first hand. As Godowsky has proposed the difficulty of writin' for a single hand as a means to further one's composin' technique, your view is legitimate. You're quite bright you are.

  • @kierankasey I don't see anywhere on the video or on the info his name as a credit. I believe you should give him a credit. No offense. He is the real genius here. He thought about it first and he recorded first with Sony. Arranging for two pianos is way easier than what Volodos did for one piano. Trust me I know. Anyhow Volodos he sounds like two pianists playing but then again he is the real deal.

  • @jennifergala I wouldn't really call it copyin' as opposed to payin' him tribute as much as I can see where you're comin' from with respect to acknowledgin' the bits he inspired. I still do find the arrangement to be highly original though and maybe an extrapolation of Volodos' arrangement in a different style for 2 pianos instead. It must really difficult arrangin' fer 2 pianos and with such proportionate balance to boot.

  • You guys are copying Volodos' version in a lot of parts. You should give him credit at least.

  • Crazy! Mozart would be proud!
