ABC's Good Morning America "Whistle Stop '08 Tour" train splits the automatic signals heading west at MP356 and rolls by an enthusiastic group at Wayneport, east of Rochester, NY. Captured 15 September 2008 at Wayneport Road.

Train is led by AMTK P42s #75 and #76, and converted F40PH cab/baggage #90225, which has been equipped with satellite transmission equipment for broadcasting from the train. Superliner equipment does not normally run east of Chicago on the former New York Central because of clearance issues. Bringing up the rear are two Juniata Terminal private coaches in PRR Tuscan Red varnish.

Greetings to Ben and his family! Nice meeting you! Drop me a note!

  • LOL! Man Dave I remember that! U got me in there at the end! LOL! I which Super liners was on PO48 and PO49 that would be awesome!

  • Hiya Scott,

Yeah, hard to believe that was more than a year ago!

I think the guys who work at the Amtrak car repair shops would not be happy to have Superliner equipment moving on the Chicago line, because it would end up putting a dent in all of 'em! LOL! Actually, there are no clearance problems between here and Albany, but south of Albany on the Hudson line there are tunnels that don't have enough clearance for Superliner equipment. Same for the Boston line, east of Albany.

  • Dave,

You can hear me in the back ground!!! Awesome! I hope GMA does that again!! That would be cool!!

  • Hi Scott,

You are definitely part of the "enthusiastic crowd" that I mention in the video description! :o)

I'm thinking you won't see a train like this again until the next presidential election, if then! But we can hope...

  • What Was That Behind The P42s?

I dont Get What It Is.

  • ok ya tht makes sense

  • Ramon, that's right. Normally the Boston section of the Lake Shore Limited (trains 448/449) take a spur between Albany-Rensselaer station and the Boston Line. If the GMA train didn't go that way, it would have taken the Boston Line all the way into Selkirk Yard, which passenger trains don't normally run on. (Again, I don't know for sure if that's how it was routed, but it makes sense if they had to avoid height issues.)

  • oo so it went on a line tht passenger trains dont normally run on right if so cool
