This video was created by HCMA partners at Barnes Jewish in St. Louis. We are happy to share it with our HCMA visitors. This video highlights the need for greater awareness of sudden cardiac arrest in the young. It also brings to light some real world solutions on how we can work to stop sudden death in the young.
I wonder how different my life would be if my HCM had been dealt with earlier. I remember sprinting around the track for PE and collapsing and still in a racing heart rate 20 min later and the teacher telling me if I was not so fat (only about 20 pounds overweight) I would not be having such heart problems. When I finally did go to a doctor 15 years later because people kept telling me noone should be as lethargic as me - the docs just told me I had a thick heart.
