CHAPTER 30!

"It was so easy that night, should have been strong, yeah I lied..."
Nick's heart was pounding as he listened to the words Maddy sang.
He'd heard this song, About You Now by the Sugababes before, but he'd never really taken the time to properly listen to the lyrics.
But as he sat there, watching Maddy sing, the lyrics stung, in both a good way and a bad way.
"Can we bring yesterday back around, 'cause I know how I feel about you now..." The song went on. "I was dumb, I was wrong, I let you down, but I know how I feel about you now..."
This song was probably for Nick.
Because so far, EVERYONE had been singing dedication songs, this HAD to be for him.
Unless... She suddenly realized that her true love was non-other than her favorite Jonas Brother, Joe Jonas? Like her first crush had been?
...Nope.
He was stupid for even thinking that.
This song was for Nick. And it was confusing him.
Maddy was apologizing. Should he forgive her?
Everything － the falling in love, the going out, the using, the hurting, the breaking up, the going out with her sister － had all happened in just one night.
Maybe the whole thing just wasn't that big a deal?
Maybe he was just overreacting and being too dramatic?
Maybe what Maddy had done was just a little mistake, and maybe, it was just another one of those things that in a few years time, they could all look back and laugh at?
But still, what Maddy had done, was using him as a tool to get to Joe.
And thinking about it that way, still made it hurt.
After all, that day at the concert when they first met, he fell in love at first sight.
Helplessly.
No, he wasn't going to forgive her. Not just yet.
So when Maddy finished her song, Nick knew just what to sing.

Maddy bit her lip and looked at Nick as finished singing the last words to the song.
She hoped he'd heard the song － like, REALLY heard it.
She was hoping to get a little smile from Nick.
But no such luck.
He just stood up, accepted the mic from Maddy, and fidgeted with the remote.
"This could be fun," Maddy heard Olivia whispering to Briana.
"Oh yeah," Briana whispered back, grinning and nodding.
Maddy rolled her eyes,
They were obviously having fun watching the soapy situation of Maddy, Nick, and Gabby's whole relationship.
They knew that after Gabby's love song and Maddy's apologizing song, Nick was going to sing something back to either one of them, making the situation even more juicy and fun to watch.
God, they were evil.
But even Maddy could sense that Nick was going to sing something interesting.
Soon enough, the intro started.
Maddy felt sick.
She knew the song.
It was one that she loved, one that she sang all the time with Olivia and Briana.
But hearing the words coming out of Nick's mouth, she couldn't help but feeling like someone had slapped her both cheeks with a wet fish.
Especially when the chorus came, Maddy fought hard to hold in the tears forming at the corner of her eyes.
"It's too late to apologize, it's too late..."
Ouch.
Apologize by One Republic.
That SO meant he hadn't let her off the hook.
This was supposed to be the moment she dreamt of － a Jonas Brother singing a song just for her － but it was all wrong.
She bit her lip hard as she tried not to cry. At least not now. She'd have plenty of time to cry after everyone was done having fun. After all, she didn't want to bust their mood.
