  • beautiful phrasing and sense of the musical phrase

dreadful support of her middle voice which exhibits tremolo and weakness How old is she?

We are living in an era where singers do not build their middle voices well yet the attempt roles written almost entirely in middle voice

  • She was trained as a mezzo first. Then she had to re-do her voice completely. For her it is not in the "middle" here.

  • Antonacci is a wonderful Medea. Of course she doesn't match the genius of Callas, but her voice evokes something that operas from the Classicism seem to demand, a certain nobility and warmth of tone. She has a rare musicality and excellent technique and, at least in terms of vocal expression, she's among the best Medeas ever.

  • well, La Callas isn't here any more; is her memory ment to deny artists nowadays? Or if so, we don't go see any longer opera shows but rest home to listen old registrations...

I saw Antonacci in Medea at The Capitole, Toulouse 2005, I found her wonderful actress & singer , exquisite moment of opera.

It happens I saw her in Era la notte, too & I am impressed by her modesty & dinstinction , rare today...

  • @hchristopher1 Yes, but Antonacci is as close to Callas as the Andromeda Galaxy is to the Milky Way.

  • J'adore cette Chanteuse,l'Artiste et la Femme qu'elle est!! C'est un bonheur de travailler avec elle!!

  • Brava Antonacci. If remember Caballè or Verret as Medea, she is far better. From Monteverdi to Donizzetti and as Falcon (Carmen) she presents perfect musicality.

  • She sounds HEAVENLY. Even as a Mental-deranged Sorceress. lol

  • Sorry...beg to differ...the media hype made Callas more than what she vocally was, imho...She was one of the great opera actresses, commanding onstage but Antonacci has 'it' all, looks, dramatic acting ability AND a voice that can sing mezzo AND soprano roles with equal grace...Bravo, la Antonacci!!!!!!!

  • Maria Callas was the only Medea. Voce divine. But still very good!

  • Eine tolle Interpretation der Medea!

  • Fantastica interpretacion, de una aria tan dificil, como es esta. No quiero comparar con la Callas, solo creo que hoy por hoy Anna Caterina puede ser la mejor Medea!!!!!!

  • Certain roles always raise the ghost of Callas, and Medea is certainly one of them. And there is no greater Callas fan than I, but PLEASE, can we discuss Antonacci here? Who among us SAW Antonacci in Medea? I would be willing to bet it was a wrenching experience. And as Callas herself said about Fach "é soprano, basta!" Who cares what Antonacci "is"? She is without classification just as was Callas. Let's be thankful we have her: she may be the closest thing to Callas we have now. Brava!
