How do you get the second chord to be Dm6? Those notes (G,D & F) actually make up a G7. The sixth note in a D scale is B.
In your chord you play the D (root) and F (minor third) but you play them with a G which then makes your relative D note into a fifth and your relative F note into a (flattened) seventh.
If you played a D minor chord but left the B string open as opposed to the G string as you suggest, This would indeed be a Dm6.
