Edward Jenner - Smallpox Vaccine

Edward Jenner was an English country doctor who pioneered vaccination. In 1796 Jenner discovered that inoculation with cowpox gave immunity to smallpox. The video is set to the 'Size of a cow' by the Wonderstuff.

OK I'm confused. It says Jenner was inoculated when he was a child for smallpox. Then went onto discover a vaccine for smallpox? What?!?!

Also it said some of the people trying to use his methods and gave the patients cowpox by mistake and they died. Isn't that what you're meant to do so you don't get smallpox? I need answers!

@gregorycawthorne The old method was inoculation - it was dangerous as they used smallpox matter and there was a chance that you could develop the full-blown disease. Jenner's method was called vaccination. He used a similar disease, cowpox, but it was much safer. Watch the video again - it should be clearer this time:)

@worcesterjonny Ohhhh........ Thanks :). I still think It's wrong at 2:06 though. Surely it should say "They gave the patient smallpox by mistake and they died!". Because it says cowpox instead and that's what Jenner said you were meant to do. No?

I could tell U of the dozens of books I have collected over decades on the issue. @gregorycawthorne- There was a mandatory small pox vax law in UK 1853.. Increased penalties to jail time in 1867. Near 100% compliance by 1871.. Results? 1872 their worse epidemic ever- near 45,000 died.. City of Leicester stopped vax, improved sanitation. @darkwizzie1- NO disease ever eradicated by poisonous vax.. Water, sanitation, transportation fresh food refrigeration improvement quality biggest cause of reduction.. Cholera is back in Haiti cause they don't have good quality of these things.. Not everyone has agreed to take poisonous shots.. Let's compare the health of the 2 on a big scale.
