@n0vag0d It uses rockets to get going, then it discards them and uses it's own scramjet.

@MaxOrbit . It was suspended in November 2004. X-43B an C were to follow, but they were scrapped.
-
@jonmichaelllosinger It was "completed" in 2004, not cancelled. And completed successfully I might add.

@DeadMartha For every $1 we spend on NASA we spend $58 on defense and $46 on social services. I think it's a good deal myself. This is a proof of concept vehicle, step 1 of a much larger plan. A lot of knowledge was gained for future use. If you think the Hubble Telescope and the internet itself (in part by NASA) are "squat" then you are impossible to please.
-
@MaxOrbit Well, if the aim was to waste a ton of cash and get no usable vehicle then going with NASA makes sense. They have a proven track record of hoovering up tax dollars and delivering squat. Outsourcing to the Russians is a recognition of this very problem.

@bobjackmon It achieves suborbital speeds and altitudes in that ten seconds and then glides to its destination, where it detonates its small nuke warhead.
