Because nationalism/patriotism is a religion. Just like people will deny a conflicting truth about their religious beliefs, people will deny conflicts with their patriotic beliefs.

@Tzimnewman3 The trouble is that it doesn't stop w/ the false flags, the conspiracies, the appearance of attacks, more proof you can't trust gov.: there's reason the highly placed & influential go thru these machinations; in the case of Vietnam, it was, according to The Pentagon Papers, to spread Am. prestige. Now that failed. But was anyone punished? No. It does no good to whine about conspiracies & corporate greed if you don't insist on heads on platters: greedmongers betting you won't.

The "Pentagon Papers" revealed in 1969 that LBJ had that Gulf of Tonkin Resolution drafted ready MONTHS BEFORE the date of the so-called "incidents".
And that's how millions of Americans were sent to Vietnam to exterminate millions of "gooks" and the US bombed those countries "back to Stone Age" but of course "the communists" did all the wrongs!

It came out later in declassified documents that this was a fake...just another pretext to go to war.
