  • In response to the below comments.I never knew Whelen made mechanical sirens.I always thought that this was a Federal product.

  • Whelen has always, and still does make electronic sirens. The siren in the video above if a FEDERAL SIGNAL THUNDERBEAM (RSH-10)

  • Lol great spot for it right on top of a Toys 'R' Us!

  • It is actually on a pole behind Toys R' Us.

  • thunderbeams are made by whalen engenering corp not federal signal

  • Do you have evidence to support that?

    BTW, its Whelen not "whalen"

  • I seen a Thunderbeam at a Valero Gas Station in Lafeyette,Indiana it was next to a School Bus yard

  • i wonder how this one works...i bet theres alot kids in that store freaking out by the loudness.

  • My city has 5 FS Thunderbeams. We have never had a problem with any one of them that i know of. We did have one problem now that i think of it. Its was during a tornado warning and all of the sirens were ran way to long. The moter burned up i Belive. Don;t qoute me

  • i hear a tbolt in the background ^^

  • Can you really talk robert seeing as how you haven't provided anything yourself?

  • I hear a low tone siren too....

  • gee, someone has an attitude.

  • The chopper (or the part that makes the sound) is in the top part, where the motor is. When the siren is going at the top the sound is traveling down and hitting the plate and bouncing outwards and sending the sound in a 'beam'. When your farther away from the siren you can really tell the difference.

And I do think its worth copyrighting because there aren't a lot of Thunderbeam videos out there. They're kind of a rarity because they are so notorious for breaking...

  • This poor quality shaking video ain't worth copyrighting.

Get a tripod and come back and do it right.

Does that sound-reflecting disk actually make a difference?

  • This is a mechanical siren with a motor and rotor/stator.
