Vaccines are our best way to prevent infections. In this lecture we discuss different types of vaccines, such as inactivated, attenuated, and subunit, with illustrations from influenza, poliovirus, hepatitis B virus, and papillomavirus vaccines. We close with a discussion of disease eradication and the obstacles that remain before poliovirus can be wiped from the face of the Earth.
