Perhaps you are thinking about your book collecting from a practical perspective rather than an enjoyable hobby.

  • and also people don't understand the collection of books because they see them as boring. many people say, "why buy more if theyre boring." but i understand and agree with you completely. do u ever wonder what will happen to all your books when you die? i always wonder and worry about mine thinking people will just throw them away. do we leave a will specifically for books, do you know what i mean?

  • @delanoca My brother collects coins - which I think is boring, funny how someone else's hobby can seem boring to you LOL. I am not going to die..... hahaha.. anyway I hope my heirs at the very least see that some of them may be of value and sell them on Ebay or whatever is around at that time - which may not be too far way for me. Anyone seen my cane??

  • @bumblesby oh, i hope you didn't get offended by my question. i didn't mean to say you were old or close to death. I was just asking becaue it's something i think of a lot...what will happen to my stuff. I'm 24, and I'm already thinking of that...LOL.

  • @delanoca No, not at all. I was stating a fact - I am not going to die! I decided I would be the first one not to. LOL

  • There is no such thing as too many books. At least not in my opinion ;)

  • What a great topic, you handled it very well. I'm a collector AND a reader. I can buy a book with no intention of reading it. I'll pick it up because it caught my eye, I like the feel of it in my hands, and, of course, the smell. I especially relish what would be considered antiquarian, nothing like an old book from the 1800s or early 1900s. What sweetens it for me is if there's handwriting in it. It's awesome to know someone 100 years before me held it in their hands then it made its way to me.

  • I can never have enough books :D

I refuse to part with them because it would mess up my collection , I have a first edition of the 1st box car children book, my mom wants me to get rid of it because it is a children's book, she doesn't understand it is a collectors item.

I also collect bookmarks so they go together

  • Tim, this was an excellent video and I am so happy that you did it!! It was so well said and I understood so much more about my personal situation...you helped me to open my eyes and see things differently...I still am going to hold off on buying for awhile, but now I don't feel bad...thanks! : )
