Please also see my clip of the Seehund U-boat on this channel.
This is a WW2 German small submarine Biber U-boat for 1 person! Very unique and can be seen near Vlissingen in The Netherlands. This mini one seater U-boat (build in 1944) was found on the bottom of the river Westerschelde, covered by mud and with the dead body of the captain in the cockpit. The germans build 324 Biber U-boats in total. It was a copy of a british submarine which was captured by the germans in Norway earlier. It has an Opel Blits truck-engine for sailing above and a electro engine for under water use. The sub was easy to transport and could easy do its job anywhere in Europe, so was the idea. It has two electro-driven torpedos on board to attack allied vessels during WW2. Its engine did not have much power so it went mainly downstream. There also was 2-person U-boat named: Seehund. During heavy weather it always had to be pulled back upstream again by a towboat! The Biber was only seen a few times and were succesfull in the beginning of WW2. Later the allied forces sended torpedoboathunter (specialized boats) and they sank a lot of them. The Bibers were not very safe and it is presumed that some of them disappeared as a result of their unsafety. The germans used them in the Westerschelde after the allied troops landed in Antwerp mainly around sept. 1944. Sizes of the U-boat: Length 8,58 meter. High 1,42. Wide 1,57 meter.

  • a very good example of individual technology, so german, so fine. But, the must famous reference about this kind of ships can be find in the experience of the italian navy, who´s counterattacked at the british during the battle of Cabo Matapán,or better knwed as Gaudo battle. Then, the actionof the submerines and little boats armed with torpedos shows the powerfull capability of this tools in the battlefiels of the sea.

  • @SSUstufRudel he jiggles his knees

  • A lot of U-Boat drivers were either burnt a live or suffocated in the engine fumes. Charming.

  • @StyrbjornStarke Let's hope his sinks.

  • @BR5499a Ho come on mate. The guy that posted this is from the Netherlands. I would like to see you post in Dutch, Flemish or French and make such a small number of mistakes. Also to say something is Very Unique is a common remark in the UK and EU. It may not be correct QE. But it is done to over reiterate the rarity of a thing and is excepted as a common form.
