@JimLazerEyeBeam I'm not disagreeing with you, though. It is simple from my point of view. Kreator started what I consider "thrash" in Europe. Since Germany was war torn, Kreator did not get the publicity here in the states and had been making music that no one heard until closer to 1985. The first real thrash band here in the states was probably Slayer. Many bands just are not "thrash" in my eyes. I would have to say that Venom is the most influential band to most thrash bands, though.
@JimLazerEyeBeam Venom was an influence on Mille, but to me, Venom just did not have what I consider to be thrash. It is a genre problem of sorts. I don't consider Metallica thrash because their drummer doesn't play what I consider "thrash". Back in the 80's "thrash" was a word used to describe skate/punkish bands like D.R.I. here in central Florida. Unfortunately, I think "thrash" means too many different things to too many different people. Kreator has its roots from the '70s though...
@MPetrozzaIsGod Metallica formed in 1981, Kreator/Tormentor formed in 1982. Still, there wasn't one real "creator" of thrash. It was a variety of bands influencing one another. The closest that could lay claim would probably be Venom, I guess.
Kreator ruled!
