700 Studierende der FU/TU singen und spielen als Collegium Musicum im Abschlusskonzert ihres Leiters Manfred Fabricius das Finale aus Gustav Mahlers 8.Sinfonie.
For the english speaking visitors: There is no one professional musician among the chorus and the orchestra. They all are studying normal professions. The only studyied musician is the conductor.
Spirtual bliss.... Nothing less.

I've read nothing about Mahler to suggest he was anything less than a perfectionist who held the bar very high for performances of his works. Allowing conductors to interpret his works in different ways is one thing; but to suggest Mahler would approve of conductors attempting to perform one of his masterpieces by some well meaning, but clearly not-ready-for-primie time amateurs isn't something Mahler would have been particularly pleased with in my humble opinion.

You must not know much about Mahler. He left his music wide open to interpretation which he found too binding to do otherwise. He felt even youth orchestras could do justice to his music. You might want to brush up on his bios to understand where he was coming from in allowing conductors to interpret in their own way.

I'd be surprised if it's not Sir Simon Rattle considering it's Berlin and he's the same age from this far away shot, but the hair might be too tame. My guess is Sir Rattle.

An assault on my ears. Mahler would be mortified by this performance. Pathetic.
