  • And, keep in mind that this was during the period where "Louise Hovick" {Gypsy} and her family appeared in legitimate vaudeville, 'bigred', and perhaps they and Jack DID play the same bill at times...but, as you've observed, he NEVER played the "burlesque circuit". Jack was too sophisticated to appear in those places, and always performed "clean material" in public!

  • This is the "Jack Benny" that appeared on television at the time this was filmed; he even uses his standard TV show ending, often seen in filmed episodes: "Good night, folks, I'll be seeing you soon". This is basically an "in-joke" to the audience- a similar one was used in "What's Up, Doc?" (1950), where an animated [and unemployed] caricature of Jack tries to impress a disinterested Elmer Fudd- he says to Bugs, "What are you hanging around with [him]? [He'll] never amount to anything!".

  • that may have been an inside joke, but since this is based on the life of gypsie rose lee and her mother, maybe they did cross paths with Jack in vaudville- but never burlesque.
